Green Business Policy
Campbell's Coffee & Tea is active in local recycling and
waste reduction efforts.
Reduce, reuse, recycle. The first point in this chain is
deliberate. We take reduction of waste into account in every major
business decision. If we don't produce waste, we will have less to
recycle.
As a food service provider, there are many valid concerns about
reuse...think about it. So we rely heavily on our baristas and our
customers to help us in reducing waste first. If you're having your
drink at the shop, please use a ceramic mug...your drink will taste
better and we hope you won't throw it away!
We sell travel mugs, but you can make us very happy by bringing
and using your own. We don't care whose mug we serve your drink
in, as long as it's yours!
Just think, if you are a loyal Campbell's Coffee fan and come
by the drive thru, say, two or three times a week, YOU are producing
over 100 waste items...twice that if you count the lid and three times
that if you use a stirrer or a straw. It's up to YOU to reduce that
waste burden on our local systems. We don't use disposable
cups...you do.
We recycle 100% of our coffee grinds, glass, plastics,
newspapers, glossy magazines, cardboard, and packaging materials.
And this requires more effort than you might think. We work with other
local business and non-profits to reduce our waste and boost their
existing recycling efforts. Most of what we recycle cannot be recycled
in Covington, so we have to take it on the road. And we do.
In order to keep our transportation costs (and thus emissions)
down, we "carpool" and take our recycling in conjunction with other
shop errands. Our new advertising campaign is entirely green -- it
relies on a bicycle and 100% renewable energy. Buying from local
providers also keeps our carbon footprint small.
We use 100% compostable bags for our coffees when you
buy by the pound (you do need to remove the tin ties). Because we
feel strongly about the fresh roasted difference, we want you
to drink your coffee at its peak flavor. Foil bags are designed mostly
to keep moisture out of your coffee and give you a sense of flavor
preservation...but any coffee is stale (and bitter) after a week or 10
days. The foil is mostly a marketing gimmick and is not recyclable. If
you do keep coffee around for longer than a week, it should be kept in
an air tight container to slow the staling process as much as possible.
